This exclusive and LIMITED EDITION OF 2,500 BOTTLES of Refuge Manx Rum is presented in a custom commemorative solid wooden crate.
70cl bottling at 45% ABV from the 11 first fill bourbon quarter casks matured within the sea-soaked walls of the Tower of Refuge during 2023/24.
“With courage, nothing is impossible” - Sir William Hillary
To mark 200 years since the formation of the RNLI by Sir William Hillary on the Isle of Man, the 11 casks of our scratch-made Manx Rum were taken to ‘barrel age’ inside the Tower of Refuge for one year during the bicentenary (being removed from the Tower in October 2024). The Tower was constructed by Sir William Hillary to provide refuge to stranded mariners and stands in Douglas Bay to this day as an iconic monument to a brave and resourceful man.
Bottle No. 1 was auctioned in late October 2024 (achieving a price of £1350) with 100% of the proceeds of that sale donated to the RNLI. Bottle No. 200 has been donated to the RNLI national archives.
This sought after limited edition features a stunning new label designed by our local artist Julia Ashby Smyth and each bottle is individually numbered. The commemorative solid wood crate will also include a souvenir booklet detailing the Isle of Man’s role in the formation of the RNLI and the production story behind Refuge Manx Rum.
Fermented and distilled from organic Colombian panela, Manx Refuge Rum is a light amber rum, naturally coloured and non chill-filtered. Rich, smooth and imbued with the historic maritime atmosphere of the Tower, you will taste notes of toasted oak, vanilla, salted caramel and bourbon.
