It’s been a few weeks since we made it down to check on the Fynoderee Spring Barley at Scarlett Farm and wow what a difference!

Warm conditions interspersed with some gentle midsummer rainfall has really pushed on the crop and we were delighted yesterday to be greeted with a field full of swaying “ears”…

These ears are a spike, consisting of a central stem on which tightly packed rows of flowers grow. These will develop into fruits containing the edible grain….the bit we’re after for our Manx Malt Whiskey!

Looking good so far… But still a way to go!
