There’s a moment every year when you know TT has arrived. The roads change, bikes seem to appear everywhere, old friends return, new faces arrive and there’s that unmistakable buzz around the Island. We love it. But this year, even by TT standards, things felt a little different.
Somewhere amongst the bikes, race teams and thousands of visitors, Hollywood had arrived too. Filming was taking place for the new Amazon MGM Studios feature film Isle of Man, inspired by the TT. And rather than recreating it all somewhere else, they came here, right into the middle of the real thing. Suddenly names like Channing Tatum, Eve Hewson and Brad Pitt were being mentioned alongside the usual TT conversations.
We see what the TT does to the Island every year and we meet so many of the people who travel huge distances to experience it. But seeing a major film production come here to capture that atmosphere for audiences around the world makes us appreciate it all over again. And when you add visitors such as Keanu Reeves into the mix, you realise just how far the pull of the TT and our little Island really reaches.
Of course, while the cameras were rolling, there was still some incredible racing happening around us. Dean Harrison had a fantastic TT, winning the Superbike and Senior, while Michael Dunlop added another three victories to his remarkable record, taking his career total to 36 TT wins.
But for us, TT is about more than the results. It’s the atmosphere, the people you meet, the conversations, the visitors discovering the Island for the first time and those who come back year after year. It’s seeing our towns, pubs, cafés and businesses full and the whole Island seemingly caught up in it together.
Just when we thought the Isle of Man had enjoyed its fair share of the spotlight for one summer, along came another special visitor. In July, we welcomed His Majesty King Charles III to the Island for the first time as our Lord of Mann.
Seeing people turn out to welcome him and watching the Island share its history, culture and traditions was another of those moments that made us feel incredibly proud to be Manx and to have Fynoderee rooted here.
And perhaps one of our favourite images from the whole visit was seeing the Lord of Mann travelling along Douglas Promenade on one of our historic horse trams, pulled by Bobby the Clydesdale. There was something wonderfully Manx about it.
There are summers that seem to disappear in a flash, and this has definitely been one of them. Looking back, it feels like Team Fyn has barely stood still. We’ve travelled from one end of the Island to the other, been involved in weddings, community events and poured more drinks than we can count and we've loved every minute of it.
One of our favourite things about summer on the Isle of Man is just how much is going on, and how many opportunities there are to get out, meet people and be part of it.
As the days begin to shorten and autumn settles over the Island, we’ve been looking back at what has been a really special summer at Fynoderee.
