(PT - 20 hours per week, salary commensurate with experience)

21 days holiday PRO RATA. Hours flexible and predominantly daytime but will be weighted towards the end of the week and will include some daytime, Saturday hours. Holidays to be taken outside of peak tourist periods.

Based at The Fynoderee Distillery, Ramsey

The Fyn Bar & Shop welcomes visitors for a variety of immersive experiences including distillery tours, mixology masterclasses, retail purchases, pop-up catering nights, theme events as well as operating as a cocktail bar with table service.  It exists to promote the Fynoderee brand and showcase the distillery’s own award-winning range of premium distilled products and ethos for promoting Manx culture, while also providing an outlet for ‘direct to consumer’ bottle sales and bar sales. It is an important and growing revenue stream for our business.

A new role has been identified to join our small team with the purpose of supporting our hospitality and retail offerings. We are looking for a set of experienced and capable hands to help us with admin, bookings, customer enquiries, service standards and providing our guests with a warm and welcoming experience in the shop and bar.

Job spec.

  • Assisting the head mixologist with the staffing rota to deliver efficient and high quality service standards.
  • Ensuring the Fyn Bar Shop shelves are always fully stocked, well presented and stock records and movements updated.
  • Liaison with visiting tour operators and event partners (e.g. IOM Transport)
  • Liaising with external catering parties
  • Administering, updating and maintaining the hospitality booking apps (Res Diary, Fare Harbour)
  • Managing the bookings@fynoderee.com email address and answerphone and responding to booking requests and customer queries, forwarding on when necessary.
  • Assisting customers with retail purchasing in the shop during daytime hours, advising on products and taking payments.
  • Assisting as an extra pair of hands during busy periods and for larger tour groups.
  • Helping out with guided distillery tours once adequate product knowledge has been gained.
  • Woking with the head mixologist ensure the hospitality code of conduct and customer service levels are always maintained.
  • Ensuring that menus are updated and kept in pristine condition and that all other bar related sundries and equipment is kept in good order and replaced as necessary.
  • Monitoring the cleaning and health and safety standards and undertaking a weekly audit.
  • Ensuring adequate stocks of cleaning products are always available.
  • Monitoring the physical venue for maintenance, suggesting improvements and liaison with contractors if needed.
  • Organising fresh flowers weekly for the table vases.
  • Ensuring that all front facing staff have clean and ironed uniform and that aprons are washed and ironed.
  • Updating the “Cocktail of the Week” Chalk board
  • Ensuring the bar is set up daily for serving arrival snacks and taster cocktails
  • Occasionally ‘Opening Up’ for the day.
  • Providing photo / video content for social media

It is envisioned that this role will predominantly be daytime hours, however flexibility to assist on occasional high profile / busy evenings will be appreciated.  This would be on a flexi-time basis or an agreed over-time hourly rate. As a small team, each member has to be prepared to help out in other areas of the business from time to time to ensure cover or to meet an order.

Person Specification

We are looking for an experienced and mature person from a customer facing hospitality or retail background, with a proven track record for contributing to excellent customer experiences.

  • A creative and engaging personality who will resonate well with our customers and team.
  • Confidence to make reasoned decisions and self-organise to achieve goals.
  • Ability to communicate confidently and empathetically with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • IT literate and an ability to undertake practical tasks as well as administrative ones.
  • A passion for craft food and drink and an interest in conveying our brand values around Manx culture and folklore.
  • We are more interested in relevant previous experience coupled with enthusiasm and excellent references, rather than qualifications for this role.
