As in every culture where a framework of stories to describe and reconcile the worlds of reality and imagination have evolved, the Isle of Man is no exception in providing a rich heritage of unique folklore. Viking and Celtic lore combine to create unusual interest on this peaceful island. Alexander Caine Duncan’s fascinating novel “Fynoderee” takes place in the Isle of Man, the place of his birth. Although it’s setting is contemporary this thrilling tale captures the essence of “The Old World” which may still continue untouched and unobserved by mankind. As Alexander remarks; “It’s not magic, it’s just… different.”

The Isle of Man is an enchanting place lying in the Irish Sea between the United Kingdom and Ireland where beauty, history and myth share an equal footing.

Home to Irish missionaries at the beginning of the 5th century AD, the island was held by the Vikings in the 9th century, passed from Norway to Scotland in 1266 and then to the earls of Salisbury and of Derby in the 14th century and all these cultural influences are reflected in Alexander’s novel.

It’s long been a favorite for those seeking an untouched, ageless and natural landscape and visitors both old and new will find all many islands most captivating scenes within the pages of Fynoderee.
